No Winter Break for TFTWNY

AMHERST, NY — Winter in Western New York is probably not the best time to play golf . . . so they say. The snow on the ground means no golf outside, so we take it inside! img_3072 The First Tee of WNY takes the game of golf and it’s life skills education curriculum to gymnasiums in schools across the community during the winter. To bring 2016 to a close, 580 students of Amherst Middle School were introduced to the TFTWNY and the game of golf. The key CORE VALUE that was emphasized throughout the two days was “RESPECT“. At TFTWNY, we respect three things; ourselves, other people and our surroundings. img_3506 Each physical education class was also exposed to the three main components of golf; driving, chipping and putting. Each student had the opportunity to take a swing at all three golf shots. Many of the students had never played golf before. This opportunity allowed them to see golf up close and it gave all of the students a potential outlet to play golf via The First Tee of Western New York. TFTWNY plans on seeing some of the same students again at their summer programs at Grover Cleveland and Brighton golf courses. img_3074 Coaches from TFTWNY were also assisted by the extremely energetic and excited physical education staff at Amherst Middle School. They helped introduce the program and coach a few of the stations. amherst-middle-girls One factor of golf that was a point of emphasis to the students was the idea of golf being a lifetime sport. It is a sport where anyone can play, you can meet new people, make friends, and for the young ladies in the 14 classes, it can open up a number of opportunities through college golf. Amherst middle is one of over a dozen schools in WNY to adopt The First Tee’s National School Program, which also includes the district’s elementary schools, Windermere Boulevard and Smallwood.
